Recycling Information

What is recycling and why is it important?
Recycling reduces the need to grow, harvest, or extract new raw materials from the Earth. That, in turn, reduces the harmful disruption and damage being done to the natural world, which means fewer forests cut down, rivers diverted, wild animals harmed or displaced, and less pollution. Recycling means taking the materials from products you have used and using them to make new products. We should all try to recycle because it uses up fewer resources, saves money, uses less energy and it results in less pollution.
Some benefits of recycling are:

  • Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators.
  • Conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals.
  • Increases economic security by tapping a domestic source of materials.
  • Prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials.
  • Saves energy.
